'Homeland' Season 6 Finale

This Easter Sunday while most people will be lying on the sofa in a chocolate induced coma, I will be sitting on the edge of mine trying to keep my nerves in tact, as Season 6 of ‘Homeland’ reaches its climax.

If you have still been sticking with this multi-award winning political thriller series over the last six years, it’s been a plethora of gruesome killings and cliffhangers that has kept me and millions of others hooked.

As a fan of the series, I promise not to plot spoil but for me this season has had a marked return to form.  After a preventing terrorist attack in Berlin in Season 5, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is back in New York. Having left the world of espionage behind, she is working for foundation providing aid to Muslims living in the U.S.

Former colleagues Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) and Dar Adal (F.Murray Abraham) are likewise on home soil dealing with US counter-terrorism. Whilst Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) attempts to recover from sarin poisoning which has left him incapacitated.

This is all set against the 70 day transition period between an outgoing and incoming President and those external / internal powers determined to use it to their advantage.

As the finale approaches, our four protagonists remain at the fore. But let’s not forget that ‘Homeland’ is a series that is not afraid to kill off its main characters so could we find ourselves without Carrie or Saul?

I’ll admit although it is fiction, there is part of me that sleeps sounder at night knowing that they are protecting our interests.

HBO have confirmed Season 7 and 8 are in development and will likely to be told as ‘one story’. Whether that will be in Russia, Israel or the U.S remains to be seen but as a series that strives for topicality, there is certainly plenty going on in the world to ensure ‘Homeland’ returns with enough stellar performances and intricate plot lines to keep me watching.
